Alpha

ABOUT ALPHA

Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith, run over ten weeks. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation.

Alpha gives people an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relevant, non-threatening and friendly environment. Everyone should have the chance to explore the Christian faith, ask questions and share their point of view.

What is Alpha?

Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone’s welcome. It runs in cafés, churches, universities, homes—you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but generally they have three key things in common: food, a talk and good conversation.

What happens on an average Alpha evening?

First, there’s food: Whether it’s a group of friends gathered around a kitchen table, or a quick catch up over coffee and cake, food has a way of bringing people together. It’s no different at Alpha. Most sessions start with food because it’s a great way to build community and get to know each other.

Then a talk: The talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Usually around thirty minutes long and delivered over about eleven weeks, they can be given as a live talk or played as a video. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions from Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith? to Why and how do I pray? and How does God guide us?

Followed by discussion: Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything and there’s nothing you can’t say (seriously). It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.

When does Alpha run at Albert Park Baptist?

On Wednesday 2 May at 7.00pm, we will be beginning the Alpha course. You can have a look at our postcard HERE.

How can you be involved:

Should you come along? Is God prompting you to come be part of Alpha and grow in your understanding and love to God?

or,

Be Bold & Invite Someone: ask God to show you if there is someone in your life you should invite to come along (you can also invite them to our Facebook Event).

If you are interested in coming along, or if you have any questions, you can email Wendi or April.

Alpha Youth

Every day we ask ourselves hundreds of QUESTIONS. What will I wear? What will I eat? Who should I hang out with?
Sometimes we ask ourselves BIGGER QUESTIONS like, what will I be when I grow up? Where will I live?
And occasionally we ask the REALLY BIG QUESTIONS like, why am I here? What’s my purpose? And is this really it?

The reality is there are not a lot of places we can go to explore life’s BIG QUESTIONS, so we are providing a space to ask and seek the answers to some of those BIG QUESTIONS

Alpha is a series of interactive sessions exploring the basics of the Christian faith. Each session looks at a different question and is designed to create conversation. There’s no pressure, no follow-up and no charge; it’s just an open, informal, and honest space to explore and discuss life’s big questions together.

Alpha will be run a little differently to our usual Sunday morning youth lessons, we will meet at 10 am in the youth room for Morning tea, we will watch a video and have a great discussion.

WHEN: Starts Sunday 13th May
TIME: 10-11.30am
WHERE: Meet in the youth room (above the church hall)

We aren’t asking for you to commit to the whole 10 lessons now but would love for you to come along to the first week to see if its a good fit for you. let us know if you can make it so we have enough snacks for everyone!
